ARTWORK, STRUCTURE & PRINT PREPARATION

Packaging design.
Prepared for production.

Develop packaging artwork and structure around your product. Review materials, dielines and physical samples before the design moves into production.

Packaging Design

Good packaging works beyond the first impression.

Customers see the graphics first, then experience the opening, the fit and the material. Bring those decisions together so a design can move from the screen into a practical printed package.

A clear brand hierarchy

Give the brand, product name and essential information their own space without overcrowding the layout.

A considered structure

Review the product fit, opening style and assembly requirements alongside the appearance.

Production-ready decisions

Resolve artwork, materials and sample requirements before committing to the production run.

ARTWORK & BRAND PRESENTATION

Make the important details easy to recognise.

Build a layout around the information your customer needs to see. Typography, colour and imagery should work across the box, label and printed inserts. Check small text, barcode areas and finish separations at actual size—not only in a large on-screen mockup.

  • Set a clear order for brand, product and supporting copy.
  • Allow for folds, seams, bleed and safe areas.
  • Prepare separate artwork information for specialty finishes.

STRUCTURE & PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE

Design the opening as carefully as the outside.

A packaging structure needs to fit the product and the way it will be handled. Review the board, closures and any insert with the intended packing process in mind. Use a physical sample to check dimensions and assembly before treating a visual mockup as an approved design.

  • Start with product dimensions, weight and clearance needs.
  • Compare suitable box styles and insert arrangements.
  • Check opening, closing and product placement in a sample.

HOW IT COMES TOGETHER

From a starting idea to an approved sample.

Keep creative decisions connected to the requirements of the finished product.

  1. Share the brief

Bring brand assets, product information and reference directions.

  2. Review structure

Define size, opening style, material and dieline requirements.

  3. Prepare artwork

Develop or adapt the layout for the agreed print area.

  4. Check a sample

Validate the agreed structure and selected visual details.

  5. Confirm handover

Record final artwork, specifications and approved revisions.

PROJECT SCOPE

The right support for your starting point.

Not every project needs the same design work. Agree the scope, revisions and fees before work begins.

Talk through your requirements

Review the files for production.

Use the existing design and resolve the print-preparation details.

  • Artwork size, bleed, safe areas and image quality
  • Font, colour and specialty-finish file requirements
  • Artwork alignment with the confirmed dieline

Start with the product inside.

Find a workable construction before finalising the artwork.

  • Product measurements and fit references
  • Proposed box style, board and insert needs
  • Dieline and structural sample scope

Define a focused creative brief.

Turn references into agreed design tasks and approval stages.

  • Brand assets, target audience and packaging objectives
  • Artwork direction and required packaging components
  • Deliverables, revision scope, fees and sample plan

BEFORE WE BEGIN

Good questions.
Clearer decisions.

Practical answers to help you plan the next step.

Can you work with my existing packaging designer?

Yes. Your designer can provide artwork and brand guidelines while MEIKEI reviews production requirements. Agree responsibility for the dieline, artwork revisions, colour references and final approval at the start.

Can you help if I do not have a dieline?

Share the product dimensions, intended box style and material direction. A structural review can identify the dieline requirements. Some projects need a physical product sample to verify the fit before artwork is finalised.

Do you provide both artwork and structural design support?

Both can be discussed, but the exact scope depends on the project. Artwork adaptation, new creative work, structural development and print preparation are different tasks and should be itemised in the proposal.

Does a realistic mockup prove the packaging will work?

No. A mockup helps visualise the design; it does not validate fit, strength or assembly. Use an agreed physical sample and, where relevant, appropriate testing to assess functional requirements.

Are design work, tooling and samples included for free?

Do not assume they are included. Fees depend on the work required, revision scope, tooling and sample type. Confirm the deliverables and commercial terms in the quotation before starting.

Who checks product claims and regulatory information?

Your business is responsible for providing and approving product text, claims, barcodes and any required regulatory content. Print preparation is not a substitute for a legal or regulatory review.
